The tenants thrive when they can help others. The Society creates opportunities for volunteer work that allows tenants to look out for one another and be good neighbours.
“I like the responsibility of minding the store. And I help my neighbours keep their food costs down.” Jack, tenant since 1997
Tenant volunteers help cook, serve and clean up after community meals and barbecues. Tenant volunteers help at bingo nights. Tenant volunteers buddy up with newcomers to show them the ropes. Tenants check in on each other when ill, help with grocery shopping, and visit each other in hospital.
“I like helping with bingo and the community meals. It feels good to do my share.” Ted, tenant since 2004
“I enjoy volunteering with Seniors Support and look forward to calling a special friend, Betty, on Monday nights. She is a young 98. However she has suggested that I call every other week so she has more to say!” Marc, tenant since 2009
