In 2007 as part of the 14 Sites Supportive Housing Initiative by the Province of BC and the City of Vancouver, the 127 Society applied, and was selected, to develop the site at 1050 Expo Boulevard. The supportive housing to be developed and operated on that site will complement our three existing buildings in the same neighbourhood.
The 127 Society’s tenants are aging. Accepted as “seniors” at age 45 and above, stable housing enables many of them to live longer. The Society is challenged to help tenants stay in their apartments as long as possible, while discerning the difference between providing housing and providing healthcare.
The Society has set a strategic priority to explore how we can help tenants age in place, and set their minds at rest about next steps.
“This is my christening photo taken 69 years ago. It’s hard to believe I was ever so young.” Peter, tenant since 2008
